In 1994, The Energizer Bunny took
on Darth Vader in an infamous TV commercial. The fight was a draw;
as luck would have it, Darth uses the inferior Power Volt brand
batteries in his lightsaber, and they just don't keep going and going.
I was Darth Vader's keeper at the time, as well as responsible for
making the lightsaber he used in the spot. It was created by
machining down an aluminum flashlight. Darth Vader was portrayed
by Tom Bewley, who has performed Vader since 1980 for various
commercials and public appearances. The commercial was directed by
Matthew Robbins and filmed in Los Angeles over several very hot and
humid days. In a longer version of the commercial, my gloved hand
made a cameo following a pink spot on a radar screen.
Several years later, the ILM Modelshop created three new bunnies for use in all future commercials. I helped create the bunnies' skeletal system as well parts of it's mechanical systems.
You can watch the short version here. I have yet to find a clean copy of the longer, 1 minute version. |
